Jay Beckstead, MD

Dr. Beckstead retired in December 2016

Dr. Beckstead is a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist with a sub-specialty board in hematopathology. He specializes in surgical pathology and his particular areas of interest include hematopathology and immunohistochemical techniques.

Dr. Beckstead’s advanced training includes a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) with Dorothy Bainton, M.D., a nationally recognized hematology expert. He was a member of the faculty of the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCSF for eleven years. He left UCSF as an Associate Professor to join the faculty of Oregon Health Sciences University as a Professor of Pathology for nine years. He also served as Vice Chairman and Head of the Division of Anatomic Pathology. He is currently a Clinical Professor of Pathology at OHSU. Dr. Beckstead has lectured widely and published over one hundred scientific papers, including eighty-eight papers in prestigious, peer-reviewed journals.

In his leisure hours, Dr. Beckstead pursues his love of fly fishing, gardening, wine, and cooking. He lives in East Medford in a restored house built in 1933 surrounded by gardens with his wife, who retired as an Associate Professor at OHSU to teach at St. Mary’s School.
