Todd S. Barry, MD, PhD

Dr. Barry is a board certified Hematopathologist, as well as, a board certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist. Dr. Barry's expertise includes: immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostic testing, flow cytometry, leukemias, lymphomas, cutaneous lymphoid disorders, breast pathology and prognostic and predictive breast cancer diagnostics. Dr. Barry has a broad research background and is a well-published author with many peer-reviewed publications in the aforementioned areas. He has authored several book chapters and has delivered numerous lectures and courses on behalf of the USCAP, ASCP, CAP and has been an invited speaker for many national and international pathology societies.

Education and Training

Dr. Barry received his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC under the direct supervision of Dr. Barton Haynes in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. He then completed his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Dr. Barry finished a one year Surgical Pathology/ Immunohistochemistry Fellowship at the University of Washington Medical Center and completed two more years of Hematopathology Fellowship training under Dr. Elaine Jaffe, Dr. Stefania Pittaluga, and Dr. Mark Raffeld at the National Cancer Institute within the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

MEMBERSHIPS

Dr. Barry is a member of the Arthur Purdy Stout Society, Society for Hematopathology, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Association for Molecular Pathologists, College of American Pathologists, United States College of American Pathologists and International Clinical Cytometry Society.

EXPERIENCE

Prior to establishing his own consultative pathology practice, Spectrum Pathology, Dr. Barry was the Medical Director of Clarient, where he helped drive the development, application and commercialization of multiple diagnostic tests including several proprietary algorithm based tests in breast/lung, (Mammastrat, Pulmotype). Prior to Clarient, Dr. Barry was employed by PhenoPath Laboratories, a boutique Pathology reference lab in Seattle, WA, for six years, where he served as the Director of Molecular Pathology and Hematopathology.

In his free time, Dr. Barry is passionate about music and sound systems. He enjoys the outdoors, traveling, skiing, reading and his family. He is fluent in French and maintains his fluency via french broadcasting, movies and publications.
